A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) at his right side, his right index finger on the trigger, his left hand around the fork of the fork (musket fork) upon which the barrel, pointing diagonally upwards, rests (no. 37), ca. 1600. In his left hand he also holds a lit match. Plate 37 in the instructions for handling the musket: Shorte instruction for the figures, so much concerneth the right use of muskett.
