About this work

A soldier, full-length, pouring powder from a powder flask into the pan (the powder reservoir) of a musket (a specific type of firearm) (no. 16), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, he holds a lit match. Plate 16 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
