Capture of Lille, 1708

Siege from 22 August and capture of Lille by the Allies under Prince Eugene of Savoy on 23 October 1708; the castle was taken on 8 December. The central representation of the siege framed in a richly decorated ornamental border with, at the top, a cartouche containing a plan of the city. Bottom, a cartouche with a description of the events in German. Bottom right, a radiant shield with the monogram CR of Carolus Rex.
