About this work

A burgher, drummer, farmer, grisette (working woman), and a street urchin dance around a liberty tree. Atop the pole a Phrygian cap with jester's bells. On a flag the title of the book. A monkey climbs the pole, and at the top a parrot sings a song. Illustration in a book with six satirical prints and accompanying texts following the revolution in France in 1848. Mostly adaptations of satirical prints from the series Hollandia Regenerata from 1795.
