Example of a second proof in darning from the Public Work and Learning School in Amsterdam. The darning work is of high quality and the very large darning in the lower left corner, with self-edges executed in silk, deserves respect. The romantic castle landscape and the decorative border are embroidered over one fabric thread. The darnings are arranged in horizontal rows, left to right and top to bottom: point lace, eyelet (recognition mark of this school), right angle: point, knitting stitch (beautiful example, see also back of sampler!), darning, flat binding, point lace, point lace, lace. The open hem is made with a linen thread. AH stands for Alida Haring, the needlework mistress.
