About this work

Court costumes typically featured white piping. Before ascending the Dutch throne, Willem I spent many years at the British court. This style of trimming was common there. When he became king, he introduced this edging at the Dutch court. This coat has two pairs of breeches and three waistcoats which can be dated to different periods by their cut and decoration.
