The four-sided tray has rounded sides and corners, always separated by right angles. It rests on a low, vaulted, tapering foot on a straight-sided base. On the raised, flat rim is an applied profiled outer edge, with an inward-curving volute flanked by leaves in the middle of each side and each corner. Engraved on the underside of the center: J. Heinius, given to Johannes van Oosterhout 28 Decemb: 1725. and for a pilgrimage gift Given to Johannes van Oosterhout Reyniers son; by his ED Grandfather // Johannes van Oosterhout; but died on 26 Decemb; 1796 in the youthful age of 9 years and 5 months and his ED Grandfather died on 21 February 1797 // at the age of 71 years and 2 months.
