About this work

The bell-shaped bell has a baluster-shaped stem with a spherical knob. Along the underside of the bell runs a smooth profile with above it an engraved border of two twisted ribbons for a band with a garland line against a background shaded in burnished technique. This border is flanked by narrower bands with similar shading. The upper part of the bell is chased with two layers of acanthus leaves laid radially on top of each other. Along the lower and upper edges of the cast stem, borders in burnished technique are applied; over the widest part run two, a band with a garland line flanking. The stem and knob are separated by a constricted connection whose lower part shows twisted cannelures. The spherical knob is decorated along the top and bottom with a zigzag line and is crowned by a vaulted, tapering, cannelured foot with a small ball.
