Sleeve made from a strip of needle lace with volutes and peonies

Sleeve of natural-coloured needle lace: Brussels gauze lace. Slightly tapering rectangular model with a slanted side, composed of different parts sewn together with a light pink lining of unworked machine-made tulle. The needle lace pattern of flower twigs and asymmetrical C-scrolls on a fine ground with single twisted meshes: a gauze lace ground, sown with knots. Solid work made with festoon stitches with nuances where the denser filling is made with satin stitches (a festoon stitch variant). Relief contours of widely spaced festooned thread bundles (cordonnets). Many cordoned rings and linked circles with different flowers in ornamental stitches decorate the lace. The scallops along the lower edge are formed by linked horizontal C-scrolls with smaller or larger flowers underneath.
