Darning patch of linen with ten different darns worked in multicolored silk and the initials LA, FGVW, EG and ANNO 1803 embroidered

The initials LA and FGVW, the parents of the embroiderer, are executed in large cursive letters. This appears to have been customary in the orphanage where she presumably stayed, the Amsterdam Maagdenhuis. The preserved proofs show that it was a skilled needleworker. Did she pay tribute to her teacher with the large letters EG? The stitches are worked in three rows above each other with left to right the following techniques: (top row) kelim, matting, darning with EG, flat binding; (middle row) diamond, darning, satin stitch; (bottom row) herringbone, goose eye: darning with eight satin hearts etc., herringbone. The initials LA and FGVW in cross stitch, ANNO 1803 in star stitch. GHA on the coat of arms board in cross stitch, double open hem with soft green silk. Double open hem.
