Decoration and paintings of Herengracht 524 in Amsterdam

The painted room at Herengracht 524 is located in the rear house on the first floor. The room has two windows on the short side overlooking the garden. The walls have wainscoting all around, above which are panels with wall paintings. The stucco ceiling has a coffer with rocaille motifs that matches the woodwork. In the middle of the long wall is the fireplace with a white marble mantel and surround on which a large mirror is placed. On either side of the fireplace are wall paintings. On the short wall opposite the windows are two doors (the left one false) with painted transoms and three paintings. On the wall opposite the fireplace are three paintings (of which the right one bears a signature). On either side of the windows are two grisaille paintings with trophies hung by ribbons. All the paintings are framed with profiled frames with rocailles and floral swags in the corners. At the top in the middle is always a bow.
