About this work

Tablecloth of linen damask with Louis XIV. Central field: the symmetrically doubled pattern shows four scenes from bottom to top: 1 Two coats of arms (Bourbon and Navarre) covered by a crown and surrounded by the chains of the Order of St. Michael and St. Esprit, from which hang a medallion with Michael and the Maltese cross with a dove. 2 Louis XIV seated on a horse galloping toward the center, holding a marshal's baton, with a long wig and a low, wide-brimmed hat with a plume. 3 Armor trophy, above which "VIVE REX FR" is trumpeted by a flying angel holding a laurel wreath above the monarch. 4 On the left and right of a crowned L, covered by a Bourbon lily, stands a trophy wreath containing: "LU DOVICUS XIIII D G FR ET NAV REX PLENUS VICTORIA." Border: trophies, fleur-de-lis, and laureled L; outside, block border. Satin 5 binding.
