About this work

Carpet, a so-called Polentapijt, of knotted silk and brocaded with gold and silver thread. The central field displays a scroll pattern with lotuses transformed into cartouche-like palmettes and various small ornaments. The background has a discontinuous field color, predominantly red, partly green and white. The middle border is decorated with a pattern of lotuses set in sickle-shaped leaves on a running scroll.
