About this work

Hot beverages, such as coffee, were sometimes drunk in a curious fashion during the 18th century, namely from a saucer! The coffee was poured from the spouted cup into the saucer to cool more quickly. The chinoiserie decorations and the yellow background are typical of Johann Gregorius Höroldt's designs.
