About this work

In 1757, the sculptor Etienne Maurice Falconet became the head of the sculpture workshop at Sèvres, where he advocated a geometric, classical style. The vases owe their name to the 'pearls' and raised panels featuring images. These vases may have been part of a set with the adjacent 'vase ballon,' although the green background colour varies slightly.
