About this work

Biblis is a character who appears in the Metamorphoses by Roman poet Ovid: her love for her brother remained unrequited and eventually she died of desire and was transformed into a spring. Sculptor Ferdinand Leenhoff taught at Amsterdam’s Rijksacademie.
