About this work

Altar cloth or frontal for an altar or church banner of natural-colored bobbin lace: Old Flemish bobbin lace with plaited ground. Standing rectangular model. The symmetrical pattern consists of a candelabra motif in the center from which volute tendrils wave with branches. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and large cutouts. The motifs are connected to each other by a picoted plaited ground. Ornamental grounds are applied in leaves and flower hearts. At the top the lace is finished with a woven linen band, the other sides are finished with a straight edge with picots.
