About this work

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: Alençon lace. Along the lower edge lie richly decorated C-scrolls between acanthus leaves. From the top of three stacked C-scrolls springs a double flower branch that curves with a large arch to the lower lying C-scroll. The many roses on the inner branch increase in size towards the hanging end. On the outer branch are feather-shaped leaves and finer rosette flowers and forget-me-nots. Along the upper edge a fine flower garland with daisies and berries. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches and accentuated by relief contours. Especially in the C-scrolls and large flower hearts many different ornamental stitches are applied. The motifs are connected by a mesh ground, an Alençon ground. The shell edge is formed by C-scrolls with acanthus leaves and a series of large roses under the lying C-scroll. The shell edge is finished with picots. The top side of the strip is straight, finished with a clotted band.
