Cake plate with Pyramus and Thisbe and scenes from the life of the Prodigal Son

Round tin plaque, a so-called 'Kuchenplatte'. In the center, in a circle, a scene of Pyramus and Thisbe at a fountain is engraved. This scene is related to a print by Heinrich Aldegrever from 1553. Around it, four scenes from the life of the Prodigal Son, clockwise from the upper left: the son takes leave of his father, the son feasting at the table, the son as a swineherd, and the son returns on his knees to his father. The scenes are related to the series by Hans Sebald Beham from 1540. The scenes are separated from each other by a caryatid.
