About this work
The three children, indicated by the numerous ears of corn, represent summer. The girl on the right holds a sheaf in her right hand as if it were a large bouquet and has loose grains of corn in her left. The boy in the middle stands on a bundle and holds the handle of a broken sickle in his left hand. The girl on the left is mainly occupied with the boy but has a few ears of corn tucked into her hair. Besides their mutual interaction, Xavery also uses sparse drapery to connect the naked figures.
