About this work

Silver and silk brocade beugeltas. High-arched, symmetrically sculpted handle with coarse engraving of a small landscape with a windmill and parrots. Heavy skirt hook with a flat, sculpted cartouche with parrots. Silver marks: dolphin (=tax stamp 1859-1893), G (year letter 1789), coat of arms (Rotterdam), and I.V.I. (=unidentified master's mark). Bag of silk brocade in pocket style, with loose flower branches in grey, gold, rose, and aubergine on a cream and silver ground.
