About this work

Funeral shroud or burial cloth of black and red wool, embroidered and appliquéd with silk. Decorated with diamond figures and coats of arms and dated 1650. On the cloth appears the name of Symen Jansen and the coats of arms of, from left to right: Heerhugowaard, Alkmaar, Bergen and Schagen; below that Alkmaar, the bastard Bredero (?), Enkhuizen, old Beverwijk and Heerhugowaard. "GODTS WOORT HOOREN EN BEWAREN".
