About this work

Linen napkin with a naturalistic floral pattern. From a tuft of large flowers and leaves in the center, a set of branches with large flowers and leaves sprout both downwards and upwards, and (below) a gourd-like fruit. The branches first bend towards the border but come together again at the bottom in a flower, from which again fine tendrils sprout that fill the cartouches formed by the turning of the branches. Branches along the selvages also appear to grow from the central branches. Between the heavy, naturalistic flowers and leaves, very fine flowers, sprigs, and twigs with small leaves lighten the whole. Mark: diagonally with cross-stitch: HD and 36.
