About this work

Baby dress, also called "carrying dress," of fine linen with English embroidery in the style of the Restoration. Model: finely gathered two-tier skirt with shell hem, smooth front, relatively long bodice with triangular decorative piece, from which wide winged strips begin; back, gathered panels attached to a shoulder strap and also with winged strips. Short trimmed sleeve. Openwork embroidery of half-round shells with dots, above which a branch with marguerites and foliage. Bodice and strips with stars. Netherlands, ca. 1825-1835.
