Inkstand decorated with rosettes and seahorses

The chased copper inkwell has a rectangular shape with low sides that transition into a projecting rim. It is divided into two compartments for pens and other writing instruments by a raised rib running lengthwise down the middle. The bottom is decoratively worked with hammer marks across the width. In the corners, four rosettes are stamped, such that the hearts on the underside are bulbous and serve as feet for the object. This motif is repeated in reverse at the ends of the rib, on the widened short edges. On either side of these, two stylized antithetically placed seahorses are chased. The centers of the long narrow edges are accentuated with some chased ornament.
