Linen damask napkin with the capture of Landau by French troops in 1703. The symmetrically doubled pattern shows from bottom to top the following scenes: 1 The year 1704. 2 Battle of infantry with pikes and swords; in the middle an officer; raised flags of France and Spain, with respectively fleurs-de-lys and the Burgundian cross, on the ground the allied flag with bundled arrows; in the foreground plant growth. 3 Officer with staff. 4 Gunner at two cannons, of which he fires one; bullets, powder casks and gabions. 5 Gunner firing a mortar; two cannons. 6 City view. 7 The crowned Burgundian cross and flint; between the legs (above) a crown, (below) the Golden Fleece, (on the side) the crowned monogram (above) P (below) V, for Philip V of Spain. 8 Woven LANDAUW. 9 Two crossed palm branches. 10 The coat of arms of the Elector of Bavaria. 11 The crowned coats of arms of France and Spain, with heart shield Anjou. 12 Again the year 1704. Running borders: among others volutes and flowers.
