About this work
Linen shirt with long, wide sleeves without cuffs and with a gusset in the armhole. Long split down the front ending in a 'flea ladder' (torn on the right side). At the top of the split, on both sides, a border of picots. Stand-up collar, embroidered with an alternating pattern of stars and diagonal crosses in white cotton and finished with picots. Closure at the front by two festooned buttonholes through which buttons with a cord were originally threaded. Splits in the side seams, reinforced with linen lining. Marked and dated in cross-stitch under the flea ladder.
