About this work
Sauce bowl of silver. The oval bowl rests on three feet in the form of crest motifs. In the longitudinal direction of the body is a chased pattern of parallel curved ribs, suggesting the appearance of a shell. The wavy upper rim has on one side a short inward curl, decorated with a rocaille. To this is attached a flat ear built up from volutes, decorated with a helmeted herm. On the other short side of the upper rim is a shallow snail-shaped mouth, decorated on the outside with curled volutes above a mask that ends in a crest motif.
