About this work
Gold-tooled leather, sheet, of so-called raised gold-tooled leather, with a design of pomegranates, formed by a symmetrically constructed pattern of a flower cup rising from a bundle of leaves encircled by a ring of pearls, framed by scalloped bandwork and leaf ornament; the matching border with a similar design, formed by a leaf shape flanked by bouquets set in a C-scroll, bounded at the top and bottom by two ornamental borders. Painted in red (with so-called "cut brush" flower points), green and white on a grey-green ground. Note: companion pieces: Victoria and Albert Museum, London. In frame.
