About this work

Fragment of lampas, partially woven with gold and silver threads and brocaded, with extra floating weft in silver thread. Lining of yellow silk and edged with a band with a zigzag pattern. Design: partially broken diamond shapes from which geometrically constructed forms emerge, interspersed with fantasy forms, floral and leaf arrangements, including pomegranates, on an orange fabric woven with silver thread in satin weave with a floral ornament. Written on the lining: 3694. On a small label: "17th cty silver + gold brocaded mat. 1, 18 x 19 en French and Co inc. 3694 Price 95". Pinned paper note with the letter F. Condition: very poor, support fabric applied locally on the reverse. Note: despite poor condition, an important textile.
