About this work
Cape of brocaded silk. Design: basket of fruit and flowers in yellow, green, red and blue, set in a pattern of leaves in white and red, framed by mirror-symmetrically arranged naturalistic flowers in two shades of blue, red, yellow and green and corresponding leaves in white and red on a cherry-colored ground. The fabric consists of two full-width lengths and two narrow lengths and may have been made into a cape for a statue of Mary (?). Lining: ecru-colored linen and remnants of blue silk. On the right bottom, written in pen on the lining: 6295. Label with: French and co. inc. 6295. Pinned note (ca. 1978-1998) with the letter N.
