Ebony writing box inlaid with ivory

Rectangular chest with a flat lid, standing on four small ball feet. On the interior, along the back and sides, two pen holders and two rows of nine shallow drawers. The entire chest is richly decorated with inlaid floral scrolls in ivory. On the lid, the scrolls spread across the surface from four European vases in the corners and from two distinct vases midway along the long sides, leaving an oval medallion free in the center. On the sides, the interior of the lid, and within the drawers, these scrolls reappear. On the exterior of the lid, a rosette is centered within the oval. On the interior of the lid, within a rectangle, a family coat of arms (likely added later). The bottom and part of the interior are inlaid with tortoiseshell. All sides and the inner and outer surfaces of the lid are framed by narrow bands with scrollwork.
