Dress of appliqué lace with symmetrical scrolling foliage in diagonal opposite corners

Shawl of natural-coloured applied lace: bobbin lace with needle lace decorative stitches - Brussels duchesse - applied to machine-made tulle. Square model. The shawl is finished along all edges with a shallow scallop edge, along which a repeating pattern of openwork cartouches is outlined, alternating between small and slightly larger sizes. From the smallest always springs a fine flower vine that bends over the larger cartouche. From two diagonally opposite corners develops a symmetrical and fine play of lines of wavy and curling vines, with a great variety of flowers and fine leaves. This pattern fans out from the corners towards the middle, and along the sides almost to the other corner. On the remaining central field is a scattered pattern of strongly curved flower branches.
