Ciborium of gilded silver with the date 1652

Ciborium of gilded silver. On the foot, which has an openwork border with leaves, two angel heads and the monograms of Christ and Mary are attached. On the nodus are angel heads with a column, anchor, and chalice. The cup is decorated in relief with grape clusters on vines and sheaves of wheat. The overhanging lid is decorated with four winged angel heads in very high relief, between which are fruit garlands. The lid is crowned by a high open crown with cherub heads with large wings and, on top, a pelican with young in a nest. On the head of the pelican is a nut with a corresponding small cross. Between the foot and the nodus is a pen with a screw thread, attached to a coin or medal with the year 1652. The ciborium is marked with a crowned hand (Antwerp), year letters Y=1655, and a master's mark consisting of the letters I and M standing one above the other in a triangle. This is the mark for Jan Moermans (Ros.3 5131). Under the foot ring are stamped the letters S.J.
