Handkerchief of lace embroidery on batiste with the alliance arms of the Netherlands-Württemberg and the crowned S

Handkerchief of natural-coloured lace embroidery: work with drawn threads and plumetis on batiste. A circle of unadorned batiste is surrounded by sixteen lobes with work with drawn threads and plumetis. In one corner stands a crowned S enclosed in palm branches (for Queen Sophie, first wife of King William III), in the opposite corner the crowned alliance coat of arms Netherlands-Württemberg. The remaining lobes show a garland, in egg-shape that surrounds a very varied decorative ground on which a flower branch stands. There are eight different decorative grounds with diamond stitch or goose-eye pattern. The scallops have along the outside a linking of lobed leaves.
