About this work

Fragments of a strip of black bobbin lace: Chantilly lace. The original pattern consists of an empty lattice ground where along the heavy and broadly scalloped underside lie hollow horns of plenty, from which smaller horns protrude, which are stopped by round C-scrolls. From the horns rise swirled branches with anemones, tulips, narcissi and lilies of the valley. The shells show alternately a fan of leaves and a thick garland of anemones and other flowers. From the inner side with linked rosettes hang fine sprigs with flowers.
