About this work

Letter bag or portfolio of thick paper covered with petitpoint embroidery, featuring the monogram of Admiral Isaac Sweers, with an engraved silver lock. Model: envelope with flap closing in the front center by means of an engraved silver lock. Two compartments with a divider. Lined with pink silk. The key to the lock is missing. Decoration: covered with a grid on which a green ground is embroidered, surrounded by a scrolling border of 'orange apples'. On the flap the double initials IS. Under the flap 'si ie vous perd/ ie suis perdu'. On the fold 'sur la paix'. On the back a crowned coat of arms. Bordered all around with a narrow passementerie of silver thread.
