About this work

Right-hand glove of goat(?) leather, dyed ocher with cut, loose tabs decorated with black satin ribbon embroidered with a floral pattern in black silk. Model: long narrow fingers where the stitching continues over the top of the hand to create the illusion of even longer fingers. The thumb is partially loose. Sewn with green silk. The loose tabs are attached to the glove with coarse stitches of yellow silk. These tabs are reinforced with three layers of grey paper and originally lined with black satin that has largely perished. Along the cuts, the tabs are edged with long-haired black silk passementerie (largely perished), which covers fairly coarse stitches of black silk. The hand is unlined. Decoration: the outside of the glove appears to be colored with a paste-like paint ocher. The tabs are decorated with black satin ribbon, embroidered with black silk where the stitches go through the leather and the paper.
