About this work
Bobbin lace cushion, made of pasteboard on the back and underside, lined with tortoiseshell. The cushion itself is covered with linen, trimmed at the top edge with a silk ribbon, over which a second layer of linen is loosely pinned, upon which a wide and a narrow strip of paper are pinned where the lace work is attached, and the four ebony bobbins hang. The finished lace edge is covered with a piece of silk and disappears at the back into a sliding drawer. Originally there must have been ten bobbins.
