About this work

Oak gate or gate-top finial, consisting of the impaled arms of Cornelis Gans, Lord of Nuland (-1699) and Johanna Maria Tromp (1644-1717), with the motto: "virtuti omnia parent". The sculpture is identical on the front and back.
