About this work

Round lead plaque, surrounded by a garland of fruit. In the foreground, to the right, Dido on horseback. Before her on a bench, the skin with which she will enclose the land is being cut into strips by two soldiers; behind her and to the right of the soldiers, two riders each. In the middle ground, many figures on horseback and on foot. In the background, a caravan, horses, donkeys, and camels in a hilly landscape with buildings.
