About this work

This glass is engraved with the coats of arms of the Rotterdam mayor Gerard François Meyners and of Margaretha Catharina Sleght, who were married on 11 May 1746. The two shields are linked by clasped hands, below which is depicted a symmetrical garden with a fountain. The glass was probably used on their wedding day.
