Thimble or hairpin with a child figure among flowers

The broad, cast part of the flat, tapering needle is decorated on the front with a standing child amidst flowers; the back shows curling floral scrolls. The top of the needle has a crest with a drop-shaped hole; on the underside of the decorated part a conical hole is cut out. This needle possesses the double property of a sewing and a hairpin. Through the conical hole a ribbon could be passed, with which a bodice or corset was laced. In the smaller hole at the top a decorative wheel could be attached in case the needle was worn in the hair.
