Hand lantern of brass

The cylindrical object consists of a body and the following four parts attached with hinges: the window, the cap, and the handle consisting of two parts. The body, decorated with profiled bands, is weighted at the base. A candlestick can be placed inside. At the front there is a projecting part, closed by a round window with greenish almost colorless glass, set in a scalloped mount, attached with a hinge and clasp. The body has a folding handle at the back. Holes of various shapes have been punched in the domed cap, and dot and other decorations have been stamped in (as on the handle). The cap has a dent. The candlestick is missing. The window hinge has been repaired in red copper. The function of the round projection on the projecting part is unknown.
