About this work
According to the family of the donor, this is a wedding dress, worn in 1822. However, neither the cut nor the fabric indicates that this gown was meant for such an occasion. The high waist, low neckline, puffed sleeves, and ankle length skirt are typical of the period. The silk fabric is woven with a fashionable, dainty scattered pattern.
