Lace cap with carnation and rocaille

Cap frill of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. One end is rounded and the other end is straight-cut and unfinished. The repeating pattern consists of a carnation placed lengthwise along the cap frill, alternating with a rocaille motif from which a split branch with leaves emerges. Part of the leaves touches one of the long sides. The pattern along the long sides further consists of linked leaves and, at regular intervals, a rocaille motif. The motifs are made in linen stitch with sparingly applied cutouts and provided with thicker contour threads. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, a Mechelen ground. Decorative grounds are applied in the rocailles and between some leaves. Except for the cut-off end, the edges of the cap frill are finished with picots.
