Ship Diorama

Three-dimensional representation in a recessed picture frame, a so-called "ship-in-a-cabinet" or ship diorama. A nocturnal scene of a sailing ship in a stormy sea with waves topped with white foam, surrounded by several seagulls. The witnessed three-masted ship of 40 guns, sailing from right to left, flies the Dutch flag. All sails of the ship are reefed. Ten crew members are visible on board. The figurehead is a man in a blue uniform with a sabre in his right hand. On the stern is a gallery and on the rail a crowned W as a monogram. The whole in a wooden frame with a decorative border.
