About this work
On a rising ground stands, three-quarter to the right, with the right leg angled forward, a bearded man, Joseph of Arimathea or Nicodemus, holding with both hands the shroud on which the dead body of Christ, turned towards the viewer, lies stretched out. Christ's arm hangs limp down, the left hand rests on the loincloth, of which a flap hangs down to the ground. The man wears a short tunic, over which the open mantle is thrown back on the shoulders; furthermore a hood fallen from the head with shoulder collar, fallen hose and shoes, and around the waist a belt with pouch.
