Chimneypiece and Woodwork, Part of the Woodwork, 1617

The oak fireplace mantel, decorated with ebony and other wood types, supported by two consoles carried by sandstone grey-painted caryatids on a plinth. The mantel frieze has an arch molding in the center and at the corners, containing a satinwood obelisk on a plinth crowned with a shaded sphere. The arch moldings are flanked by flat pilasters with cannelures and decorated with palmwood diamond heads and black-oak buckles with blackened drapers. The horizontal panels between the arch moldings have cornices with black-oak moresques as centerpieces. The entablature is articulated by consoles with animal masks, placed above the pilasters and supporting the projecting cornice. The sides each have one horizontal panel.
