About this work

This horn once hung with a similar one (now lost) in the middle of the Mariakerk, Utrecht. Both were given to the Bishop of Utrecht in 1095 but came from the abbey of Saint Hubert (patron saint of hunters) in the Belgian Ardennes. The horn is decorated with hunting scenes; around the wide end are two hunters attacking wild animals.
